The Department of Government Operations (the Department) is committed to protecting your privacy. This notice explains what information we collect when you use our websites, why we collect it, and how you can manage your information.

Website Operational Information

This privacy notice applies to all public websites and online services managed by the Department of Government Operations and its divisions or offices. This includes all sites in the domains listed in the tables to the right.

Under Utah law, you may request:

  • Access your personal data or user data. This allows you to view the personal information we hold about you. You can submit a request for access to your records through the Utah Open Records Portal
  • Correct or amend your personal data or user data. If you believe any of your personal information is inaccurate, you may request that we update it by contacting the Department Privacy Officer. 
  • Request classification as a private record (for at-risk employees only). Utah law allows at-risk government employees to request that their personal information be kept private. If you are an at-risk government employee, as defined by Utah law, you may request that your personal data be classified as a private record by contacting the GovOps Privacy Officer.

Data Privacy Ombudsperson

You can file a complaint regarding any Utah governmental entity's data privacy practices with the State of Utah Office of Data Privacy Ombudsperson. To file a complaint, please use the following contact information:

Sharing and Selling of User Data

As permitted by law, the Department of Government Operations may share your user data with the following: 

  • Other Utah Governmental Entities: We may share data with other state agencies when necessary to help analyze or improve services.
  • Service providers: These are vendors who act on our behalf. We share data with them only so they can perform a service for us at our direction (like hosting our website, securing our systems, or correcting a technical problem). They are contractually prohibited from using your data for their own purposes. 
  • Technology Partners: These are specific third parties whose services we use. Our contracts may permit them to use some of your user data to improve their own products or services. We only permit this as allowed by law and our contracts.

THE DEPARTMENT DOES NOT SELL YOUR USER DATA.

Children's Privacy

Our websites are intended for a general audience and are not directed at children under the age of 13. The Department does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through these websites.
